The seminar deals with the role of the court painting and design atelier in the three late Islamic Empires: Ottoman Turkey, Safavid Iran, and Mughal India, with special attention to arts of the book and architectural decoration.
The seminar will take at least two field trips to Cambridge, New York, and/or Springfield MA, and research projects will be encouraged to deal with actual works of art.
Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
