For as long as there has been cinema there has also been film criticism, from print and broadcast media to web formats in recent decades. Podcasts now offer a versatile new digital medium for film criticism, drawing on many of the strengths of traditional media in addition to its own unique qualities of engagement. In this course, we will study the work of writing compelling and illuminating film criticism for the podcast medium and techniques for producing rich, engaging podcast content. We will work with films across a variety of genres and time periods and do hands-on work in all aspects of producing a film criticism podcast: research, analysis, writing, planning, conducting interviews, moderating, recording, editing, and posting the finished podcasts.
