This is the class for you if you are looking to create your own news site, magazine or brand. We will look at new and emerging for-profit and non-profit news organizations, how they work and how they sustain themselves (or not) financially. We'll learn about tech tools that help us work successfully as independent news publishers, including content management systems, tech tools and other digital resources. Other topics include: idea strategizing and development, marketing and audience development through social media, time and business management.
Open to Senior and Junior JOURNAL majors only. Students will develop their own news site "business" from concept to reality using the Lean Business Canvas approach, and compete in the final exam by presenting their idea to a panel of real entrepreneurs. If you are successful, you will be eligible to continue with your project working with the Berthiaume Center for Entrepreneurship at the Isenberg School.
Juniors and Seniors of any major may seek permission of the Instructor to enroll.
