This course is an introduction to how the social sciences and the science of psychology, in particular, can contribute to the public policy arena. It is designed to provide students with a foundation for understanding a variety of psychological theories, how they can and are used to influence social policy, and what the social sciences can tell us about major social policy issues. Specifically, during the first half of the semester, students taking this course will learn about how policymakers utilize social science research; psychological concepts regarding persuasion and the public acceptance of social policy initiatives, and the psychology of creating change in the social world. The second half of the course will focus on the application of social science research and principles to specific social issues.
Open to Senior and Junior Psychology majors only. Pre Req: PSYCH 241
