This course introduces basic concepts and methods of scientific computing, computer programming, mathematical modeling, and statistical analysis in the broad context of science and engineering from the perspective of chemical engineering. Topics include: introduction to computer systems, hardware and
software; introduction to Matlab and Octave as programming languages; design and implementation of algorithms; iterative methods; systems of linear algebraic equations with applications; nonlinear algebraic equations with applications; function interpolation and
differentiation with applications; data fitting and least-squares;
numerical solution of ordinary and partial differential equations with
applications; elements of probability theory; elements of classical
and Bayesian statistics; computation and software tools for industrial
applications.
