Computer Science 345 - Pract & Appl of Data Managemnt

Computing has become data-driven, and databases are now at the heart of commercial applications. The purpose of this course is to provide a comprehensive introduction to the use of data management systems within the context of various applications. Some of the covered topics include application-driven database design, schema refinement, implementation of basic transactions, data on the web, and data visualization.

Open to Senior and Junior Computer Science majors only. COMPSCI 187 w/C STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO HAVE BASIC PROGRAMMING SKILLS, AND BE ABLE TO USE LAPTOPS IN CLASS. STUDENTS WHO HAVE TAKEN COMPSCI 445 ARE NOT ELIGIBLE. INFORMATICS (BDIC) MAJORS SHOULD REQUEST AN OVERRIDE IF UNABLE TO ENROLL ON SPIRE. OTHER NON-CS MAJORS WHO MEET PREREQUISITE WILL BE CONSIDERED WITH INSTRUCTOR PERMISSION IF AVAILABLE SEATS.
