We will explore evolutionary and ecological perspectives to understand how life on Earth has changed in the past hundred years and how it may continue to change as a consequence of climate change. The first third of the course focuses on the drivers of climate change and physical responses to climate change (e.g. changes in temperature & precipitation patterns, sea ice extent and sea levels). In the next third, we will focus on how life on Earth has responded to climate change and ocean acidification and what might happen in the future. In the last third of the seminar, we will explore sources that deal with adaptation and mitigation to discuss ways in which we humans may reduce the impact of climate change on our and other species.
