This course examines the idea of sustainability in the context of the environmental history of North America. It pays particular attention to the ways in which relationships between nature and culture have changed over time in response to the forces of global capitalism, and in recent years, to the challenges of a changing climate.
Open to Doctoral & Masters students only. Graduate students will
be expected to complete a 12-15 page research paper on a topic of their
choice (subject to instructor approval), and write two short papers and
occasionally co-lead class discussions of assigned readings.
Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
