In this course, we will review traditional manufacturing tools and will discuss why some of them are insufficient for new manufacturing techniques, such as using traditional semiconductor tools for flexible electronics printing. We will learn popular machine learning and artificial intelligent tools in advanced manufacturing systems, including basic knowledge of pattern analysis, expert systems, neural networks, and knowledge-based or rule-based intelligent systems. In case studies, we will learn how to apply these methods to manufacturing systems and improve the cost, yield, productivity and reliability of these systems, as well as various sensors and control techniques.

The 600 level students will need to 1) solve additional graduate-level problems in assignments, 2) more challenging programming in their mini- and final- project.
