This course covers reasoning, judgment, and decision making. Reasoning is making an inference from information; judgment is forming an opinion or estimate; and decision making is selecting a course of action. The material in this course is drawn from research in psychology, economics, and neuroscience and is applicable to large number of fields such as public policy, law, business, organizational behavior, computer science, medicine, engineering and, most importantly, everyday life. This course is about how we *should* act, how we *do* act, and the difference between the two. A very important theme of the course is that humans share a common set of skills that they use to make decisions, but they also, however, share a common set of limitations that make these decisions far from optimal. We will be examining these limitations and how to adjust for them and when to embrace them.
Open to Senior and Junior Psychology majors only. Pre Req: PSYCH 241
