Using computers for system design and decision making under uncertainty. Monte Carlo methods, modeling discrete-event stochastic systems, random number generation, time-advance mechanisms, output analysis, simulation-based optimization. This course counts as a CS Elective toward the CS major (BA or BS).
Junior and Senior Computer Science majors may enroll in this course if they have completed COMPSCI 187 and STATISTC 515 with a grade of C or better. LECT 01 FOR UNDERGRADS; LECT 02 FOR GRADS. SEATS SAVED FOR INCOMING GRAD STUDENTS. SOME BACKGROUND IN STOCHASTIC PROCESSES IS HELPFUL, BUT NOT REQUIRED, AS THE MATERIAL WILL BE DEVELOPED IN CLASS.
