This course will introduce students to the field of Ubiquitous Computing - an emerging CS research area that draws from Machine Learning, Signal Processing, Sensor Systems, Hardware Prototyping, Mobile Computing, Embedded Systems, and various application areas including Human Computer Interaction, Sustainability, Medicine, as well as from Psychology, Economics and Sociology. We will discuss various Ubicomp solutions to real-world problems, advanced prototyping techniques, data collection approaches, signal representation, modeling, and evaluation. This course counts as a CS Elective toward the CS major (BA or BS).
Open to junior and senior Computer Science majors who have completed both COMPSCI 230 and 240 with a grade of C or better. LECT 01 FOR UNDERGRADS; LECT 02 FOR GRADS. SOME BACKGROUND IN MACHINE LEARNING, SIGNAL PROCESSING, EMBEDDED SYSTEMS, PHYSICAL COMPUTING IS HELPFUL. INSTRUCTOR PERMISSION FOR STUDENTS WITH ALTERNATE PREREQUISITES.
