Levantine Arabic I is offered in a special independent study format through the Five College Center for the Study of World Languages. The course develops speaking and listening skills in colloquial Jordanian, Lebanese, Palestinian, and Syrian Arabic. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions with a native speaker and a final evaluation by an outside evaluator. In order to enroll in this course, students must have completed the equivalent of one year of elementary Modern Standard Arabic in a course with a speaking component in Modern Standard Arabic or a dialect. Students studying Levantine Arabic develop skills needed for study abroad in Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Syria or the West Bank and to support course work in Middle Eastern and International Studies.
Students must apply to add this course; Contact the Five College Center for the Study of World Languages for details: fivecolleges.edu/fclang
