The course examines the main films of Federico Fellini and their Anglo-American reception by filmmakers like Woody Allen, Brian De Palma, and Paul Mazursky among others. It investigates the main themes of identity-in-progress, negotiating with one's own personal and historical past, questioning one's own creativity, and compassion for oneself and the others' and, of course, highlights its visual rendition of these themes. Its purpose is to understand what made Fellini, of all European directors, a crucial reference in American cinema and modern culture.
