Students participating course will develop and offer short public history tours of an exhibit on the anti-war movement during the Vietnam War era. Based on primary sources, oral histories, photographs, and the accompanying Waging Peace volume, students will each create unique public history tours that amplify and contextualize the voices of antiwar Vietnam veterans and peace activists. While the exhibit is on campus, students will give scheduled tours and assist with related events such as the Waging Peace book launch.
Students participating in this 2 credit Special Topics course will develop and offer short public history tours of an exhibit on the anti-war movement during the Vietnam War era. The exhibit will be on display from September 23-October 12. Students will meet regularly during the first weeks of September to discuss the major themes of the exhibit, prepare individual tours, and workshop the final product of their work.
The instructor and students will meet at a mutually convenient time in the UMass Oral History Lab. However, this is not a traditional class that students will attend throughout the semester. After the exhibit has moved to its next stop at Columbia University, students will meet to discuss the outcomes of their work and conclude the class.
