This guided independent study class will give students the opportunity to learn botanical terminology and basic plant morphology, as well as gain competency in using an assortment of dichotomous plant keys for the purpose of identifying a wide variety of wetland plants found in Massachusetts.
Students must select between 1 to 3 credits, and this will determine the scope of the required final project. After an initial field orientation with the instructor which is scheduled over the summer before the start of the semester, students will independently spend time in the field and will identify plants to the Genus species level, keeping a record of weekly activities. An herbarium project is also required.
