Faculty First Year Seminars 191ART7 - Visual Art in Contemporary Ed

In this introductory seminar, students will develop a general understanding of how art is approached in our education system and its relationship to contemporary society. Through discussions and personal hands on art exploration we will discuss the basic pillars of Art Education while exploring the UMass campus and the opportunities available to students within the community. This seminar is designed as part of the entry into College life, students will become familiar with community standards, as well as the social and academic expectations and the resources available to help them reach these expectations. Through this seminar we will build a supportive classroom community while exploring art in education and developing strategies for a successful transition into the first year of college.
