This course develops speaking and listening skills in colloquial Moroccan Arabic. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions with a native speaker and a final evaluation by an outside evaluator. In order to enroll in this course, students must have completed two semesters of Modern Standard Arabic at the 100-level or the equivalent. This course is appropriate for students who have had at least one year of Modern Standard Arabic that included a significant speaking component in either MSA or a dialect. The focus is on practical everyday conversation and listening comprehension. Students studying Moroccan Arabic develop skills needed for study abroad in Morocco and to support course work in Middle Eastern and International Studies.
Before enrolling in an Arabic dialect course, students are required to have completed the equivalent of one year of elementary Modern Standard Arabic in a course with a significant speaking component in MSA or a dialect.
