Our history as a nation is profoundly influenced by our adherence to disturbing racial narratives. These stories, that tell us who should be in power, and who should not, who should enjoy safety and comfort and who should not, and who should be allowed to exist in certain spaces and who should not, are so baked into our daily culture that we scarcely think about them. When people with privilege are forced to think about them, they often become profoundly disturbed and upset. In this class, we examine how race was created as a social construct, how it is perpetuated generation after generation, and who benefits from its continued persistence.
