This course discusses the intersections of technology and art and both the potentials and hazards that come from compounding the two. It will provide a very basic introduction to the fabrication tools available to artists. More importantly the course focuses on the philosophical questions that arise when working with this equipment. The focus will be on readings and discussions with a few digital fabrication mini-projects. Its aim is to get students to be adaptive creators who are familiar with a range of possible methods and are willing to direct their own learning in order to best engage with these tools.
Open to first-year Humanities and Fine Arts Exploratory Track students and first-year HFA Majors.
