This course offers an interdisciplinary overview of the city of Barcelona and Catalan culture, encompassing the most salient aspects of its society, languages, literature, cinema, art, music, and traditions. The course allows students to familiarize themselves with key aspects related to the modern making of the city and, at the same time, serves as an introduction to Catalan literature, art, and film. Students will broaden their perception of the cultural diversity of contemporary Spain as they watch movies, study art works, and read a variety of texts by Catalan writers, historians, artists, and urban planners. Taught in Spanish.
This course counts as an upper level (300) elective for the Spanish major.
