Topic: Business Through the Humanities II

How do you read annual reports and 10-K filings? How do you discover, deconstruct, and reconstruct the narratives of companies such as Amazon, Chipotle, and Netflix? From the letters written by the likes of Jeff Bezos
and Warren Buffett, to mission statements of companies such as Google and Facebook, the business world is filled with text that can reveal the forces and people shaping the business world today. These and other related readings can help you understand where the world is going and what it will be like in the years to come. Is blockchain around the corner? Where are the drones? What about the flying cars? Is cybersecurity the new defense industry? There is a lot going on out there and we can find out more about the key social and technological trends by learning to
seek, distill, and decipher the business narratives that surround us. In this course, students will focus on business-related text, learning specifically how to read stories and narratives about well-known companies. The course will help acquire skills and perspective that will give you a qualitative edge over other business majors.
There is NO prerequisite, though this course builds on the Business through the Humanities I course taught last spring.
