Utopian and dystopian novels. The ability of literature to generate social critique. Readings include works by Huxley, Orwell, Kafka, Atwood, Burgess, Gibson, Piercy, Gilman, Dick, and others. (Gen.Ed. AL, DG)
Open to first-year students in Global Opportunities RAP in Emerson. Students in Global Opportunities RAP in Emerson Hall will enroll together in "Brave New World" (Comparative Literature 131). This course is inspired by Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. We will explore contemporary examples of futuristic dystopian societies from around the world from popular films, shows, and literature. Students will discuss and analyze questions these futuristic societies present for us today.
