How computers work, including digital logic, arithmetic, data path, and memory. Students build circuits with prototyping boards; program microcontrollers in assembly language and C to work with various I/O devices.
Open to Senior and Junior Computer Science majors only. COMPSCI 220 or 230w/C MAY OPEN TO SOPHOMORE CS MAJORS MEETING PREREQUISITE, IF AVAILABLE SEATS. STUDENTS WILL BE EXPECTED TO PURCHASE A HARDWARE KIT (MORE DETAILS WILL BE PROVIDED TO ENROLLED STUDENTS).STUDENTS NEEDING SPECIAL PERMISSION MUST REQUEST OVERRIDES VIA THE ON-LINE FORM: https://www.cics.umass.edu/overrides.
