This first-year seminar examines both political culture and rock music culture in the United Sates from the 1920s-present. The course topic provides both practical application of historical methods, and a solid foundation for incoming students interested in pursuing an HFA track. Students engage directly with primary and secondary sources, archives, oral histories, scholarly books and articles and are encouraged to think critically and creatively about historical events, United States domestic and foreign policy, and rock n' roll culture. The course consists of weekly meetings and helps new students make a positive transition to collegiate life. Students will participate in meaningful class discussions, reflections, and will personally engage with outside departments, faculty and staff on campus.
Open to first-year Humanities and Fine Arts Exploratory Track students and first-year HFA Majors.
Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
