College life presents a wide range of moral challenges. Some are obvious and well-known: should I cheat? Should I pay for textbooks or is it okay to pirate them? Others arise out of the fact that, especially for incoming students, college represents a period of both self-definition and new responsibilities to oneself. One might wonder how to think about free speech and hate speech on campus, or how to navigate campus hookup culture in a morally responsible way. This course will examine these and other topics through the examination of readings by contemporary philosophers working in a wide range of fields and perspectives.
Open to first-year Humanities and Fine Arts Exploratory Track students and first-year HFA Majors.
