Imagine a world without numbers. Maybe that sounds great; no more math class! But if our brains couldn?t understand numbers at all, the world would be totally incomprehensible. If we can?t tell one from two, we can?t distinguish between objects. If we don?t know what ?enough? is, we wouldn?t be able to have enough food. And how would we get around campus if we never knew how far to go? Together, we will explore how numerical processing influences behavior through animal cognition, human development, cross-cultural, and historical perspectives. To do so, we will use activities, discussions, and scientific literature, and you won?t even have to touch a calculator.
Open to Natural Sciences Freshman with a declared major or on the Natural Sciences Exploratory Track. Freshmen Only
