Why should we care about ice at the bottom of the world? In this course we will explore climate science along with the history of epic Antarctic exploration, strange geopolitics, and more. Are there citizens of Antarctica? How old is the ice on the continent, and what was there before? What about the future - will Antarctica disappear? Who gets to do Antarctic science? Through these topics we will learn about diversity in science, what the past can teach us about the future, how ice half a world away can impact the lives of all of us around the world, and why there is more to ice than meets the eye.
Open to Natural Sciences Freshman with a declared major or on the Natural Sciences Exploratory Track. Freshmen Only
