This course is designed as an opportunity for future and present artists and art educators to experience the art and culture of Italy. In this course, students will be able to immerse themselves in the art and culture of Venice, Florence, and Rome. Participants will experience hands-on workshops and be guided through museums, notable architecture, and historic neighborhoods. This opportunity will inspire art students and provide art educators with insight for incorporating information about historical artworks into their curriculum. Participants will attend class both in-person and remotely for approximately 20 hours before departure, dates. Meeting times will be selected during the first class meeting. It is mandatory that all students attend the first meeting. In addition, daily one-hour class meetings in Italy will take place. Guided museum tours will be provided on a regular basis. In order to pass the course, students are expected to attend all sessions prior to departure and while on the ground in Italy.
This course involves international travel in summer 2020 & additional program fees. Interested students can learn more & apply through the International Programs Office (http://www.ipo.umass.edu/?go=ArtEdItaly). Class meeting times on campus will be determined based on students' availability.
