PreReq: GEOSCI 450or492NP This graduate seminar will explore changes in international and US protected area law, policy, and practice since 2000. Key topics will include the development and implementation of the ?new paradigm? of protected areas and ?rights-based conservation;? the new international emphasis on ?conserved areas? and landscape/seascape-scale conservation; increased recognition of Indigenous peoples? and local communities? stewardship and conservation and sustainability contributions in protected and conserved areas; and promotion of governance diversity, quality, and equity. We will also examine topics chosen by seminar members.
