This lecture course is an introduction to studying political thought and political theory in a global, transnational, comparative way. The core problems are both what it means to study the normative and ideological dimensions of politics across the divides of distinct traditions and also what is involved in treating the entire globe as the proper scope for political thought. This course thus has three main sections: (a) a conceptual and theoretical survey of different purposes and methods for globalizing political thought; (b) a deeper dive into one particular non-Western tradition; and (c) various responses to the global condition of colonialism and modernization.
