This course is designed to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge related to measuring children's free-living physical activity and sedentary behavior in unstructured environments. Students will learn about and become proficient with direct observation methods, accelerometry and anthropometric measurements. Becoming proficient in these methodologies will allow students to continue with hands-on data collection efforts. Student work in this course will contribute to our development of new observation methods, better use of accelerometer technology, including research-grade devices and consumer activity monitors. Students will also learn best practices regarding human subjects' related research and the behavioral theory that is the foundation for using wearable technologies to increase physical activity behaviors.

No pre-requisites, open to all disciplines. Application and in-person interview required to receive enrollment permission from instructor. Any undergraduate student in good academic standing (GPA > 2.0).

Permission is required for interchange registration during all registration periods.
