This course examines applications of Data Science in the planning and operations of Electrical Power Networks. The course covers (i.) basic power systems concepts for centralized and distributed electricity generation and storage (ii.) an introduction to relevant methods in geospatial data analysis and machine learning, and (iii.) trends affecting the electricity sector. This course incorporates a significant programming component, with assignments on electricity supply implications from fluctuating solar photovoltaic and wind generation; integrated electricity system planning including grids, microgrids, and solar home systems; and demand side management, including smart appliances and electric vehicles.
Open to Graduate students only. Basic programming (assignments will be in Python), introductory statistics, electricity and circuits background.
