Portraits of and by women in modern French society, drawing on literary and cultural texts mainly from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Authors include Colette, De Beauvoir, Duras, Ernaux, and others. This course fulfills either the nineteenth or twentieth-century literature distribution requirement.
Requirements: Active participation in class discussion; two short papers; two hour exams.
