This hands-on graduate seminar provides comprehensive training in the use of in-depth interviewing to conduct sociological research. The course takes students through each step of the process: from formulating research questions for which in depth interviewing constitutes a fruitful method of inquiry, to developing a research instrument, addressing research ethics, recruiting participants, transcribing, analyzing, and crafting sociological arguments using interview data. Students should come prepared with a research interest to investigate, and a commitment to spending significant time during the course of the semester gathering, analyzing, and writing about their interview data.
Open to Graduate students only.
Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
