This course provides students with a preamble to the formal analysis of syntactic theory as applied to Spanish sentence structure. Syntactic Structure of Spanish presents a broad view of syntactic theory while exploring phenomena that are specific to the Spanish language, such as: null subject pronouns, clitic doubling, particle "a", postverbal subjects, preverbal adverbs, and different uses of the particle "se". Although this course presupposes NO prior knowledge of linguistic theory, it assumes an intermediate level of proficiency in the Spanish language, which is essential to succeed in this course.
