This course explores disability rights history and current topics such as effective community engagement, advocacy, self-advocacy, inclusion, social identities, policy, and the social dimensions of living with disabilities in the US today. Students, in small groups, participate in weekly service, engaging in enrichment and socialization activities with individuals living with disabilities, in collaboration with a local community partner (generally one evening/week). Additionally, one evening orientation session and three full-day weekend events are required. This a designated civic engagement course.
Students must be available for course meetings on 2/4 5:30-9pm and 2/24, 3/31, and 4/13 10am - 3pm.
