Do you find it hard to imagine a future that is not some version of that disaster movie you watched a couple of years ago? The Covid-19 pandemic, global warming, mass migration, and wars make it difficult to feel hopeful about what is to come. In this course, we will look at current world events and think about the way people move to respond to the problems that affect their lives. We will consider how these relocations affect our lives as much as the problems that cause people to move. How do we imagine our future(s)? What are different ways to approach migration, in all its scales and forms? How do we foster transformative relationships to change? This course explores narratives and representations of present conflicts and issues and establishes a variety of frameworks to analyze these timely topics and discuss imagined and unimagined possible futures.
