This seminar will support your transition to college and introduce you to a topic in public health and health sciences. The first six weeks will provide foundational skills for students to thrive at UMass. The last seven weeks will focus on exploring the topic: Sleep and Physical Activity Across the Lifespan. Sleep and physical activity are associated with numerous health outcomes. It is concerning that sleep and activity patterns are often compromised in aging. College is a particularly important time for establishing healthy behaviors. In this course, we will explore the effects of sleep and activity on health across the lifespan. Weeks 7-9 will be dedicated to discussion around independent effects of sleep and activity on health. Weeks 10-12 will be focused on connecting the two behaviors. Finally, in Week 13, students will create their own sleep and physical activity interventions, designed to help them succeed throughout their college experience.
