The course is designed as a mentoring workshop to help students prepare for teaching art at the college level. The first part of the course introduces the nuts and bolts of teaching studio art: designing courses, writing syllabi, identifying learning objectives, devising projects, conducting critiques, and grading, as well as various University regulations and policies. The second part introduces the philosophy and pedagogical frameworks such as artist-teacher narratives, various learning theories, adolescent and adult development for the best practices of studio teaching. All incoming graduate students in the Department of Art are required to take the Teaching Workshop in the fall semester in their first year.

This class is open to MA-Art and MFA-Art students only

Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
