The course will introduce you to the negative phenomena associated with the use of Information Systems (IS). The ubiquitous use of IS and data in the organizational and personal domains has given rise to non-beneficial, if unintended consequences. Understanding why and how these "dark side" phenomenon happen is necessary, to identify IS design, management and use issues that are relevant to them - and that IS research should squarely tackle. Given the centrality of IS in these phenomena, IS scholars are also being increasingly being called to contribute to the ethical discourse around these phenomena. This course will examine the dark side of IS use, at the individual, organizational and societal levels. The course is organized around specific research topics, which will be explored through weekly readings.
Open to Isenberg School of Management PhD students only.
