How can we recover, through translations, the cultural and ideological heritages of Latin America? This course explores the fundamental role of translation and translators in the construction of cultures and identities in the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking Latin America. Moreover since the beginning of the twenty-first century we have seen a remarkable increase in publications on translation history and the gradual development of this specific field of study. In this course we shall be looking at some of the main features of this research as it concerns Latin America. The course will provide students with a range of examples of what research into the history of translation in Latin America can be, both in terms of the themes covered and of the methods and approaches used.
