Theater 397X - ST- Let's Make Some Noise!

In sound and music, there is raw material all around us...birds chirping in the trees, the steady grind of an industrial AC unit, the reverberance in a stairwell. With the power of digital sound editing, all of these ingredients, and many more, can be manipulated, shaped, and transformed into music. Let's spend the semester listening to our surroundings and collecting recordings from the "field" in order to make sonic creations -- all without using a single note of traditional music. Skills and tools will include: learning to listen actively in a range of environments, using portable recorders to clearly capture sounds and ambiances, and gaining facility in software to manipulate and arrange these sounds into something new.
