Introductory vocabulary and definitions, descriptions of the dynamics of oppression at the individual, institutional, and cultural levels. Focus on developing personal awareness of social group memberships in relationship to two specific forms of oppression. Introduction to selected literature on two specific forms of oppression.

Open to Graduate students only. Open to Graduate students only. Class meets on Friday, September 15th and Friday December 8th, both days 9am-5pm. In addition, students will choose two weekend seminars out of four to attend.

Weekend 1- Sept. 30-Oct 1 9am-5pm (topic: Racism)
Weekend 2- Oct. 14-15 9am-5pm (topic: Youth Oppression)
Weekend 3- Oct. 28-29 9am-5pm (topic: Ableism)
Weekend 4- Nov. 11-12 9am-5pm (topic: Trans Oppression)

Foundations Core requirement for 1st year SJE doctoral and master students.
