In contemporary life, art is a universal way for people to communicate, express themselves, and share feelings, concepts, and experiences with the world. Art is an important avenue through which to connect with others, especially in times of crisis. Art can also be the catalyst for self-reflection, healing, and well-being for individuals, communities, and the public at large. In this course we will explore how art and artists have been at the forefront of movements to shape collective health and social change. We will engage in readings, discussions, local field-trips, and creative activities that emphasize dialogue and collaboration, building relationships with peers, identifying resources across campus, and planning for artistic and academic projects.
