Why are social media companies collecting your information? Why is ChatGPT hit-or-miss? Are robots really going to take our jobs? In today's world, governments and companies regularly collect and use massive amounts of data in amazing, fascinating, and sometimes horrific ways. In this course, we'll learn about how big data is commonly collected, who's collecting this information, and what they stand to gain from it. We?ll discuss the legality and morality of big data use - who should be allowed to use data, and which data should be fair game? Finally, we'll ask what all of this means for our privacy, convenience, scientific progress, and well-being.
