This seminar trains students in historical research techniques and the writing of history, and fulfills the University's Junior Writing requirement. See the History Department course description guide for various sectional sub-titles and descriptions.

Open to Seniors and Juniors in History, Middle East and Judaic majors only. National Parks

For well over a century, national parks have been important places to learn about nature and history. They have also reflected the changing state of race relations in the USA. Over the course of the semester, students will explore the history of NPS, especially with regard to race relations. We will examine the role of race in the establishment and management of national parks, as well as how NPS has presented the history of race relations to the public. Because this is a junior writing seminar, students will be practicing and developing their research and writing skills through a series of writing exercises culminating in an independent research paper examining the history of race relations and how race relations have beenpresented to the public in one park.

Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
