A detailed examination of the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soils occurring in wetland environments. Applications of this information critical to wetland restoration efforts seeking to replicate the biochemical environment of natural wetland substrates. Additional emphasis on the identification of hydric soil characteristics necessary for wetland delineation. Catalogue Prerequisites: ENVIRSCI 390A or 590A or permission of instructor

Open to Seniors, Juniors and Graduate students only. ENVIRSCI 364 or 564H This course is broken into two portions (lecture and field labs). The lectures will be front-loaded in the semester and these will all be delivered remotely during the scheduled class meeting time. During the month of April, the class will meet Face to Face during the scheduled time block for field exercises where you will be broken into small teams to dig shallow soil pits, describe soil profiles, and evaluate conditions against the federal hydric soil field indicators.
Class will use Holdsworth 105 for equipment storage but will not be meeting in the room. Please contact instructor for further information about meeting locations.

Students who have taken an introductory soils class (such as STOCKSCH 105) may contact the instructor for an override.

Multiple required components--lab and/or discussion section. To register, submit requests for all components simultaneously.
Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
