This advanced seminar course will introduce students to theories and research focused on the development of intergroup cognition across childhood, with a particular emphasis on exploring how research in developmental science can be used to reduce race-based stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination. Through this class, students will: (1) learn about the psychological and experiential bases of racial bias, (2) understand how we can use this information to disrupt the development of racial bias, (3) develop effective written and multi-modal strategies for communicating scientific research with the public, and (4) use these newly developed knowledge and skills to share empirically-based anti-racist strategies with caregivers and educators.
Open to junior and senior Psychology students and grad PBS students. UG PSYCH 100 or 350 or grad
