Chinese 126 - Intens Elem Chin I

Beginning course on modern standard Chinese (Mandarin). Introduction to the romanization phonetic system of Chinese (Hanyu pinyin), essential sentence structures, basic vocabulary. Rigorous training in pronunciation and tones, accuracy and fluency in speaking. Emphasis on overall development of communicative competence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. 400-500 Chinese characters in traditional form.

Native speakers of Mandarin Chinese are not eligible to take this course.
